You should hear the creative ideas generated by this group! I tried hard to just listen, and not shoot down any crazy ideas yet. Students really like things that involve stuff falling from the ceiling, and other messy ideas. It will be neat to see the final product!
The students have been meeting with me mostly during recess time, but I'm only available two days a week during their recess. Therefore, I've decided to give them some time IN CLASS to work on special projects. I especially needed to get the "tech team" started. Here is a class in action during this breakout time. I was very proud of how focused they were! The only real problem doing this, is that students are missing committee members from other classes. I'm thinking that next year, it might be better to have each class choose a song to work with, so we can work more during class time. Learn and grow!
Our 4th grade choreographers met on Friday to began planning the moves for our concert songs. The students split up according to which song they wanted to add moves to. One group struggled, and a few students decided it was not worth missing recess and asked politely to be removed from the team. I thought that would be OK, considering that it was a pretty big group to begin with, and students who are truly committed would take the time to work it out. Here is a snippet of some of the moves in progress! These are the students who chose to be "directors" for our concert. They met for the first time today and decided the song order and who would conduct each song.
It was really tough to sit back and let them work without me interjecting too much! They had a lot of things to say! The song order they chose is:
